Mud guards

  • Hi all,as someone who's only concession to fitting mudguards was fitting an ass saver,I think it's time to fit a set of mudguards
I felt particularly guilty today contributing to the mud stripes up the shiny white swan wheelers tops
I'm not sure that we can enforce it as a rule on club rides ,but maybe we can
    All consider it
I'm sure Paul ( solstice) will be more than happy to supply the midgaurds
Interesting to see how we all feel about this
Great ride again today ,love the way the club is developing
    Danny

  • I meant solstice sell the mudgaurds and we all get club discount ☺️

  • Very well put @Dannytomblin. Mudguards can be a controversial subject. I for one wouldn't want to enforce a hard and fast rule, but they do make riding in a group in wet weather a lot more pleasant.

  • Good idea to fit mudguards not only to keep yourself and other riders dryish but also protects your bike I don't think any members need a hard and fast ruling as it only applies for a few months. Some bikes may take a bit of fiddling to fit. Any modifications required contact JohnyG ???

  • I agree with Johns comment above, winter, me, won't leave home with out them!
Saw some guys yesterday totally plastered (road grime) why? Makes no sense to me...

  • the standard rule is usually if you haven't got them, you ride at the back. I wouldn't have thought we need to enforce mudguards exactly as most club riders realise that it's as much for them as the other riders in the group. It's just courteous more than anything else.

I ride with them but try and make it even simpler by not riding in the rain!! ;-)

  • I agree. Following the icy weather last week which meant the grit mixed in with the rain water it was particularly unpleasant being behind a bike without mudguards yesterday. I agree on not enforcing it, it may put non members coming along to try out the club (if they don't currently have any), but we should consider it to save fellow members behind you from a face full of grime. I know it's not the best look on race bikes but they are worth it - the forecasters keep telling us our winters are going to get wetter and milder. The Crud mud guards are perfect for those bikes with little clearance - I'm sure @stack stocks them at Solstice.

  • Please refer to rule 11 of the club ride rules.

  • If you struggle finding the rule on this subject, took me a while! its...

    11) Although mud guards will not be obligatory on club rides, during the wetter months, consideration for your fellow riders (and the owners of the café stops) would be appreciated. Any rider without mudguards will be requested by the ride leader to ride at the rear of the group.
