Count me in Dave - I'd love to have a go at a track session.
@Woods has mentioned there's one up in Derby too which isn't that much further away and may have a shorter waiting list?

Dave, we can talk on this as I have already been in touch with Lea Valley and also Derby. Lea valley have our details and will advise on availability. Currently it is fully booked until April and they haven't released dates for after April yet. Derby is more available. Pricing for Derby is £133.60 per hour and a coach is £26.25 per hour, if you require shoe hire it will be £5.60 and bike hire is between £7.30 - £10.00. Not sure on max numbers per session. Need to check that.
I am happy to leave it with you. If you want Derby details, I will forward the emails to you.
I started looking in to it about three weeks ago and hadn't got any further with posting about it!

OK. Need to seriously get on this now. So, the hire of the track at Derby is £133.60 per hour for up to 16 people. We need an instructor at £26.25 per hour. Bikes are charged between £7.30 and £10.00, not sure what the differences are other than quality I guess. The bikes have Keo cleats. As such you can use your own shoes with Keo fittings, or trainers with toe straps or hire shoes at £5.60. As such, for the full capacity of 16 of us, the maximum it will cost is £25.59. Not at all bad.
I have asked if we can have an hour with an instructor and then an hour free riding but I suspect the answer will be no. When I have found out, I will look in to dates. They have a lot of availability.
Questions are:
Who wants to to come, on top of those saying yes above.
Would you rather an hour or two hours?Regards
Adam

Two hours I think. Great work @AdamPool.

Yes, 2 hours would be good for me!

• #14
I would be up for 2 hours

Have had confirmation, we need a coach for the whole time. I will check on dates later and get some suggestions on here.

Thanks @AdamPool
Could I make a suggestion for working out the best date?
http://doodle.com is a good and free tool for figuring out when everyone can make a time. You just set a poll up with suggested dates and then invite people to tick the dates they can make allowing you to build up a picture of when the best time is.

Thanks Matt. will look in to it when I have looked at dates.

On the advice of Matt, I have set up a poll on doodle. See - http://doodle.com/poll/y6vd4fqvuufpyc9n - There are only three dates.
One note : They are NOT confirmed with the velodrome so there is always the possibility they wont be free!!! As soon as I have a bit of a response, I will try and firm dates up with the centre.

I'm in - and voted. The last one is Father's day thus giving some of us cast iron excuses to have a self indulgent day!

A bit of a discussion on Sunday during the club ride and a request to consider later dates was put forward. I dont have dates of availability beyond end June from the velodrome. As such, I have emailed to ask if they have dates in July/August. as soon as I hear back, I will post here and update the poll.
As it stands, only 6 people have responded anyway!!!

Still up for it !

Roll up!! Roll Up!! Only seven responded so far. And only 6 saying yes! Favorite is Sunday 19 June. We really need to get more people otherwise it works out to be a bit expensive.
Matt, they dont have dates beyond end of June yet.
Either we book the 19th and hope that numbers improve or we wait for the winter to return and look then!!
If we can get to 10 by end of April, I will book.
Chase your friends!!!

Hi Adam, in my experience; Newport velo 2014, you get a briefing on protocols etc and instruction before you are allowed ontrack. Ride protocols are very strict, anyone not riding in accordance will be ejected very quickly.

Last weekend I went for a session at the Lee Valley Velodrome, and made some enquiries about availablity for club sessions there. In a nutshell they do offer club sessions in 2 hour blocks, but there can be quite a waiting list. The session includes a coach, and can cater for mixed ability groups (within about half hour on my first session I was going round the steepest section so you soon pick it up!). The maximum group size is 32, and obviously the more people who go the cheaper it works out. In order to have a decent session the minimum we need would be about 16. If there is enough people interested then I will look at organising a session.
