Thanks for the advice. I rode the route today (really glad I did!) and it was passable. A little messy on the rise to Paulerspury after the bridge, but ok. I talked to a local who told me they have now finished the works (after 4 weeks). So unless its wet overnight I think we can go that way, but we'll decide tomorrow morning.
There is also a Road Closed sign between Abthorpe and Silverstone. I rode through that too and there is pedestrian access through the works (which are in Silverstone itself).
