Heading south this week to Waterperry Gardens. An ascent of Brill on the way home, but overall less climbing than the last few weeks.
The weather looks ok - should be cloudy but dry, warm for the time of year, and with a S/SSW wind to help us on the way home. I'm hoping that the roads will be dry too!
Distance: 51 miles / 82km, with the cafe at 30 miles / 48km
Ascent: 1800 ft / 550m
Speed: 17mphPlease sign up if you're interested - hope to see you on Sunday!

@Mihai yes that would be fine - I assume that they would cycle with you? You may want to encourage them to come out with you on some club rides first to check that they are happy cycling with us! And if they enjoy it they can join up ๐

Get better soon @PaulW
-
@KatieR - yes! Come along and encourage a few fellow C riders to come too and there will be!

Heading over to a new cafe (thanks to Chris!) at Middle Aston this week: The Grain Store. Our route out is via Syresham, Greatworth, Farthinghoe, Aynho (near enough) and Somerton, before the climb of the day up to North Aston. A shorter journey home takes us through Middleton Stoney before we hit familiar roads from Stratton Audley; by special request it features Aunt Em's Lane at Caversfield.
The weather is due to be warmer than the last few days, but still only 8-10C so dress accordingly. A SW wind will help us on the way home. Currently forecast dry but with rain the night before so roads may be wet - all subject to change of course!
Distance: 48 miles / 77km, with the cafe at 28 miles / 45km
Ascent: approx 2000 ft / 600m
Speed: aim for 17mphShould be good, so hope you can join - please sign up if so.

This post is to measure interest in a day trip to the Isle of Wight in September. The island offers great cycling terrain with fantastic scenery, and excluding a personal mishap (!) has been the location for some wonderful away days prior to Covid.
A brief recap on how it would work: a relatively early start by car from Buckingham for a drive of approx 2 hours to park adjacent to the ferry at Lymington (close to SO41 5SB). We travel as foot passengers (with our bikes!) over to Yarmouth, and then go for a ride on the island with suitable cafe stops throughout the day. Return home early evening.
A complete circumnavigation is around 65 miles but other routes are available to suit all interests (see eg the komoot link below), so this would be an event open to all ride categories.
If you are interested, please sign up (no commitment at this stage) and feel free to add comments, questions and suggestions in the chat below.
It should be good fun so hope many of you can join!

It's going to be cold on Sunday, maybe some frost, so not sure if we will get out, but fingers crossed that we will! And we will plan for an 11am start (10:45 meet-up) from the Swan Pool to allow conditions to improve.
Our route heads into Northants again: north through Silverstone to Blakesley, then west through Culworth and Edgcote before our stop at the Greenhouse Cafe, Barn Farm Plants, Wardington. A shorter (wind-assisted) route back via Helmdon - all downhill!
Distance: 44 miles / 70km, with the stop at 26 miles / 42km
Ascent: approx. 2100 ft / 640m
Speed: aim for 17mphPlease sign up if interested. And note the 10:45 meet-up!

Not sure what the river's like at Passenham for your return journey, but the road is quite low lying there so could be flooded: https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/river-and-sea-levels?q=Buckingham%2C%20MK18%201AA&v=map&lyr=ri,ti,gr,rf,ts,tw,ta,mv&ext=-0.925059,52.021027,-0.812388,52.067878
An alternative is to cross the Ouse at Stony Stratford, turn left at the lights in Old Stratford and pick up the cycle way just before the road comes out on the A422, and this takes you to the Deanshanger roundabout (option to rejoin the Passenham Road or use the cycle bridge)

Here's the A ride. We haven't been north much lately so here's a route over some of our favourite roads to the Barn Cafe at Upper Stowe.
The weather forecast is cold (2C) with a northerly breeze, giving us a tail wind home - so worth putting some warmer clothing on, and hopefully there won't be any ice around (will make a call Sunday if there is).
Distance: 44 miles / 71km, with the cafe at 25 miles / 40km
Ascent: approx 2300 ft / 700m
Speed: aim for 17 mph**My fitness has dropped a bit since October so the ride may suit any past A riders also trying to get back up to speed for the new year. Equally feel free to join the ride to go at a faster A pace - depending on who wants to ride we can always split into A- and A+ subgroups.
It would be great to see you on Sunday - please sign up if you fancy a ride!

Anyone up for an A ride on Old Year's Day?
I've deliberately gone for a shorter route so we should be home in good time. We head via Deanshanger, Stewkley and Cublington to the stop at the G&D, then straight home.
My fitness is not great so it will at an A- pace, so could be a good option for anyone to step up - if others more fit than me are keen please feel free to form a normal A group! Either way a good opportunity to begin the road back to fitness for the summer!
Roads are likely to be damp (rain overnight) and it will be cool with a 15MPH S/SW wind so wrap up warm and bring mudguards/winter bike - however we should avoid the rain itself which isn't forecast until the afternoon.
Please sign up if you want to come out for a ride.

In case we don't end up going out on Sunday, for those who have Zwift I have set up group "meet-up" ride for 9am Sunday. It is a free ride but aimed at all abilities - the idea being to ride with those of similar ability.
Important notes:
- I can only invite people that follow me on Zwift. If you would like to be invited, search for me: James T (SWCC) on Zwift, follow me, and also click I'm attending on this event. I will then add you to the Zwift ride.
- If the weather allows, I may cycle outside, in the real world! I don't think that would stop others from joining the Zwift meet up and riding together.
This is a bit of an experiment which may or may not go ahead, so any feedback on how to do things better another time would be very welcome!

The weather is looking quite cold on Sunday morning so will need to make the call on day as to whether we go out or not.
If we do, here is the route - a loop through Northants to Westbury, and then a short loop home. If we are out and we are enjoying it, we can extend the second half through Hethe etc.
Distance: 44 miles / 71km, with the stop at 30 miles / 48km
Ascent: approx 2000 ft / 600m
Speed: 17-19 mph, maybe at the lower end if it is cold and we are using winter bikes etc. Please sign up if you are interested, and keep an eye on the forum/WhatsApp chat for updates on the day.

Sorry @DaveB, as nice as it is now I donโt fancy the rain later so will wimp out!
-
That's because @DaveB has set the date to last Thursday!
-
@DaveB - can you post the GPX file? It seems as though you need a premium account on OS Maps to export it.
-
@DaveB just to let you know I may back out if the rain looks bad - but will confirm either way Sunday morning as the forecast may improve
-
Thanks for alerting me - now fixed in the original post above. Correction also to the weather - looks on the cool side, but otherwise ok - and less windy than last week!
