Ae you up for the challenge? https://www.cycletoworkday.org/
-
Here's a copy of the email sent out by @StephenT today - if you haven't received it, it'll either be because you need to add swanwheelerscc@gmail.com to your safe senders list or we've got an incorrect email address for you.
It is with regret that we announce the resignation of Paul Scotney from the Swan Wheelers Cycling Club committee. Paul has done a great job over the past couple of years in helping to set up the club and performing both the Membership Secretary and Treasurer roles. We would like to thank Paul for all of the time and effort that he has put into the club. Whilst Paul is resigning his committee roles, I am very pleased to say that Paul (and therefore Solstice Cycles) will continue to remain as the club's commercial sponsor.
This means that we now have two vacancies on the committee that we need to fulfil. The club constitution does not require an emergency general meeting (EGM) however as a number of members have expressed an interest in performing some of the roles we thought it was only right to open it to all members in the interest of transparency and fairness.
During this interim period Lucy Seaborn will be performing the Treasurer role and Matt Hoey will be the Membership Secretary.
The timings for the process will be as follows:
5th September – Invitation for nominations from club members opens.
11th September – nomination period ends.
12th September - nominations announced and voting commences.
25th September – voting period ends.
26th September – new committee members are announced.
As a member of the club you can nominate yourself or any other member for a role. If nominating someone else please check with them first to make sure that they are happy to perform the role! As the Treasurer role is technical in nature the committee feels it is only right that members who have experience in book keeping apply. Currently the committee would like to nominate Lucy Seaborn to fulfil this role long term but we would still like to have any other nominations. As Lucy has been nominated it would be unrealistic to expect her to perform three roles on the committee so the Social Secretary would also be on available to be filled.Once the nominations are announced on the 12th September each member will have a single vote by email for each of the roles available; Treasurer, Membership Secretary and Social Secretary (if applicable).
Action required now:
If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else please email swanwheelerscc@gmail.com with the name of the person you are nominating and the role you are nominating them for.Role descriptions:
Membership Secretary
Treasurer
Social SecretaryBeing a member of the committee is a great way to have input into the club and keep the club operating. The investment of time varies by role but as a minimum you would be expected to attend as many of the monthly committee meetings as possible, although as these are often held in a pub that shouldn’t be a hardship!
Kind regards,
Stephen Turnock

One from the forum's route library this week. A venture into Northants sweeping round to the west for a stop at Limes Farm in Farthinghoe.
Here's the route and the café stop

Hi Tim
The Weston TTs are now over for this year. We'll look to be more organised next year and identify the 4up sessions (which there are only a handful of) that people can do much earlier.
In addition we're looking to see (insurance permitting) whether we can run our own club member only taster TT session possibly along the Swan Wheelers 10 (segment on Strava) next year.
Matt

Swans' Brill Summer Event
What?
Our club summer event for 2016. All three club rides (leisure, medium and fast) will ride out to meet at Brill for a club photo by the windmill and then onto Quainton for refreshments at the George and Dragon coffee shop (paid for by the club as long as you've signed up in advance!). Upon return to Buckingham there'll be tea/coffee and Swan Wheelers cakes at Solstice Cycles. When?
Sunday 11th September 2016Where do we meet?
The rides will meet as usual at the Swan Pool, London Road at the usual time of 08:45. Each ride type will take different routes to Brill but will aim to get there for the same time. How long will we be out?
We'll aim to keep the rides to the usual distance, but the with the photograph at Brill and the refreshment stop the total time will be a little more, so please plan to be out for an additional hour to the usual club run. What do I need to bring?
Just the usual club bits, you, your bike, a helmet and a smile for the photograph. Please, also wear your Swan Wheelers jersey (if you have one). Can I do anything?
Yes please...If you're coming, please, please, please hit the Yes, I'm attending button in this post! We need to give the coffee shop an idea of how many will be coming in advance, so if you could do this as soon as possible that would be appreciated.
We'll also need ride leaders for the day so if you're interested in planning and leading the ride that day, please contact Paul Seaborn. It will require a little bit more planning than the usual club run as you'll need to coordinate with the other ride leaders to make sure everyone arrives at Brill as close together as possible.
Hope you can make it. Any questions, please post them here or let myself or another member of the committee know.

Meet at Ball Moor
The fast ride is going long this Sunday and heading west into Oxfordshire for a 60 mile loop with a stop at the Hook Norton Brewery.
Average speed is expected to be around the 17mph mark.
Please ensure you bring plenty of fluids (I'm not saying anything about the expected weather because I'm always wrong), food to keep you going and money for the brewery café (and anything else you want to carry home!).
See you Sunday, 08:45 at Ball Moor

Thanks @paulS. Will drop you an email with Stephanie's email.

This is an additional ride on Saturday 16 July as part of the Mouvaux twinning visit.
It's anticipated this will be the usual leisure ride speed. Meet at Solstice Cycles at 9am.
Route to follow once the ride leader is confirmed. But in the meantime please start praticing your "tournez à droite" and "trou de pot" calls!

The Buckingham Triathlon is taking place on Sunday 17th July at the Swan Pool. The car park and areas around the building will probably be quite chaotic, so rather than get caught up in that chaos of cars, spectators and people running around looking for bikes in swimming costumes, the club rides will depart from outside the gates at Ball Moor.
That's right for a one off nostalgic treat (we used to meet there if you've only just joined), we'll meet on Sunday 17 July at the usual time of 08:45 but outside the gates to the Solstice Cycles car park on Ball Moor.
I'll be posting this message several times on various different media throughout the week to make sure everyone is aware so apologies if you get it more than once!

Glad you like it @jerryw
Some people (@StephenT) may say it was all in the photo taking, but the real skill lies in the use of Photoshop to make it great for the site ;-)
In all seriousness it is a great club photo. Thanks to all who agreed to be in it. It's in use on the club website and Facebook page too!

Great so we have myself, @StephenT and @Woods - we need one more for a full team. Any takers? As Paul suggests we probably need a couple of practice sessions sorting out.
There's always one with a lame excuse @Jeff 😉
