Interesting article here on road.cc regarding the use of dual carriageway A roads as time trial courses.
There was a petition recently to Bucks County Council to ban cyclists from these roads but thankfully there wasn't much support. If you read the article the reasons for the petition are simply victim blaming. There is now a counter petition for the county council to start maintaining the dual A roads in better condition and enforcing other road users to pay attention to cyclists. Already its attracted a good number of votes but they need more in order to get the council to debate it.
I would encourage you all to sign the petition and also promote to others.

Thanks everyone who has responded to Matt's query both publically and privately.
The challenge is that the medium ride is bracketed by the leisure and the fast. This means that these two can be open ended speeds whereas the medium has a defined range.
With the fast ride there is the expectation that the speed will be a minimum of 17mph avg but will depend on the riders present. As we have a very limited pool of riders in the fast group the speed can vary based on who attends. When there are only a couple of us there then we can zip along quite quickly with speeds of 18 or 19 being common. However, when there is a step up ride or when a rider can only hold 17mph for whatever reason then that is the speed we go. I guess in some ways it's no different to the medium as the pace there varies based on who is attending.
Not having spoken to Matt I would imagine that his comment is more centred on trying to keep the groups clearly defined so allowing any riders to step up to the next level and ride at it more frequently.
The whole idea of the club is to allow riders to improve and progress. It would be wonderful if we had sufficient riders to justify a fourth group but we simply don't have the volume in my opinion. We already struggle to get sufficient riders out for a fast ride as it is.
If anyone has any flashes of inspiration as to how to resolve this quandary please message or speak to a member of the committee! We really do want to help all riders achieve their goals and progress should they wish to.
Many thanks

This is likely to be a step up ride as it's the first Sunday of the month so we will be going at the speed of the slowest rider but it will be 16mph average speed minimum.
In a change to the usual process I will cancel the ride on Saturday evening (6pm) if nobody has signed up in advance. If you want to go on the fast ride I strongly suggest you sign up!
Route will be posted shortly.

Longer one this week to take in a couple of hills.
Warning, this ride is front loaded so you'll be doing almost 50 miles before the coffee stop at Bodicote. If in doubt, make sure you have some nutrition! As this is a longer ride i'm happy to leave a little earlier if the rest of the attendees would prefer it. Let's communicate on here to agree. Please RSVP if you wish to attend otherwise we may leave without you :(

Heading out to Canon's Ashby. We'll be taking a slightly longer way out there with more hills and aim to meet the medium ride at the cafe.
There's a rumour that @JohnnyG may even attend! :)
Apologies for the late posting, will add the gpx later today.

Wind from the NNW so heading out to Canons Ashby. Likely to be a 45 mile ride.
Be aware, Sunday is forecast to rain heavily and it's going to be cold overnight which could mean lots of black ice. There's a good chance this ride could be called off so please check the event before heading out in the morning!
I hope to make a call on it based on the weather by 1800 on Sunday.

thanks @Woodwheels70, @AdamPool
It's probably time for a change to get some fresh ideas and perspectives on board.
