Women's Tour of Britain stage 1 - Mon 4 Oct

Posted on
  • The Women's Tour of Britain has its first stage looping around Oxon from Bicester to Banbury on 4 October, with many options to see the race:

In case anyone is interested, I plan to cycle over and catch it at Iron Down Hill, west of Deddington, which is a cat 2 QoM. Due to work commitments :-( I will be leaving Buckingham around 11:10, aiming to arrive around 12:35 (24.5 miles), with the race coming through at 13:20 - 13:48.

If anyone faces joining me, either for the ride over or meeting up at the QoM, let me know!

  • Thanks James sounds like a good plan, count me in (weather depending!).
Thinking of food there is the Quince & Clover at Great Tew or the Yurt at North Aston.

  • Excellent! Thanks @PaulW. Yes, the weather is the unknown factor at this point.

I propose we meet at the top of Gawcott Hill (where we often stop at the end of rides) at 11-11:05am, aiming to leave by 11:10 at the latest. Hope this is OK but let me know if not.

  • Hi James....I'll be with you if the weather is ok

  • A reminder for the Women's Tour tomorrow. Weather is looking good and all 9 world tour teams are taking part. Hopefully not too many riders withdraw following Paris Roubaix yesterday.

While I haven't posted this as a sign-up ride, it would be to meet fellow Swan Wheelers at the QoM cat 2 Iron Down Hill (west of Deddington) and three options for those considering it:

    1. Meet up at 11am to ride over at a reasonable (not super fast) pace - meet up at the top of Gawcott Road hill, by the entrance to the garage where we often regroup on finishing a ride.
    2. Leave Buckingham earlier to cycle over at a more leisurely pace.
    3. Travel by other means but meet up at the same point on the QoM.

We will be hanging around for 1+ hours for the race to pass so probably best to bring a bit of food. Or we could call in the Yurt on the way back for a coffee and cake...

Full details of the destination point and route options in the posts above, including Garmin Connect and GPX routes. Feel free to post to let me know if interested, or any questions.

Hope to see some of you tomorrow!

  • Quick reminder that The Yurt is no longer a coffee and cake option. They have gone all up market to be a very trendy vegetarian only restaurant and you have to book for lunch. Quince and Clover at Great Tew is a better bet.

  • Thanks @ChrisP

  • Hoping I will be fit enough to join you too.

  • @MalcolmM - you are eight months too late for this ride! Did you post here by mistake?

  • However, it is on 11 June. Think there is a post on that!!
