  • With the weather forecast looking suitable for riding albeit with a strong westerly wind this ride will be our first Wednesday ride of 2024. Each has a new finish.

With the expenses of Christmas riders may appreciate a thrifty ride so 2 are on offer

A long thrifty ride of 41.4 miles:

A shorter thrifty ride of 36 miles (revised with a shorter first half):

Both stop at Thrift Farm cafe.

As always bring suitable tyre repair kit and water, etc.

Hope to see you on Wednesday.

  • Hi @JohnH,
It looks good - can I suggest a mod to the shorter route that would have both groups arriving at Thrift around the same time. It still comes in a respectable 32 miles inc return to Swan Pool.

Re Thrift - You may already have spoken with them but it's worth checking.
They have a new layout which involves going in to the cafe via the garden shop. The person I spoke with last month said they could open the side gate to allow us to bring bikes closer to the cafe if they know we're coming.

  • Hi John, in your briefing before the ride, please can you remind all about the Derby Track Night on 12th April - there are still places available but I need to confirm numbers next week. Anyone interested should sign up on the forum under In the saddle/ other rides.
    Many thanks, Niall

  • Stuart, I suggest we discuss tomorrow what suits best those doing the shorter ride. The shorter thrifty ride can be shortened by missing out the loop going right from East Claydon and via Botolph Claydon and Granborough to Winslow and instead go left at East Claydon dropping down to Winslow. That should ensure, if required, both groups arrive about the same time and makes it a shorter ride. The current shorter thrifty ride has the advantage, to my mind, of getting most of the miles out of the way before the coffee break.

Niall, I will mention the DTN tomorrow.

  • Hi @JohnH! Thank you very much for both routes to Thrift farm and for offering to lead, it’s very much appreciated.
The idea of the shorter route is to accommodate those that go at a slower pace than those that choose the longer route so that both groups merge at the cafe at a similar time for social mixing. The shortening of the route should be on the first half (before the cafe stop). It should be shortened by roughly 5-6 miles.
If you have a route that does that, please can you post it so that those that are choosing the short route can see it and download it on to their chosen devices before the ride tomorrow.
    Many thanks!

  • Shorter route revised as above

  • That’s great! Thank you so much! 👍

  • Hi All, we will need a 2nd RL tomorrow, so looking for a volunteer please 😉

A alternative shortened Garmin Route both at the way out & back! https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/245865220

  • Thank you @PaulW!
Sorry, I’m unable to make the ride now. I’m glad your knee is better, have a good ride!

  • Decided to go on MTB’s today as so windy - might see you at the cafe later. Have a good one all.

  • Strike me off the list, I’ve a chest cold and don’t want to make it worse. Have a fab ride everyone. I won’t come to coffee in case I pass it on
