Matt, Committee,
Something to throw into the discussion although I'm not sure it has an answer... There is currently a big gap between the medium ride (14-16 mph) and the fast ride (18mph). I don't think I'm the only rider looking for a ride around 17 mph which means that the medium ride can sometimes feel a little slow when it is closer to 14 - or (and I know that I am one of the culprits here) it cans sometimes go faster (>16) than billed.
No big deal but wanted to mention it in case there are any creative solutions. Of course the obvious solution is in my own hands to keep training and get up to 18mph!

Hi folks, I think Matt has the answer already. Ride leaders are to be requested to carry two signing on sheets, so if at the start of a ride there is an obvious difference of capabilities within the group, then the ride can be split to mutual enjoyment. That does mean somebody taking on the roll of an additional ride leader.

That was just a suggestion for the midweek ride only where there is just currently the one ride going out and a mix of preferred speed. I hadn't intended suggesting it for the Sunday rides. I think that could make life a little complex with three rides.
We'll put @JamesT point on the agenda for Tuesday in respect of the Sunday rides. More thoughts on that subject welcome ahead of that of course.

Sorry Matt, did I jump the gun. However I do think it could be doable for Sundays.

Matt,committee,
Hi folks it is fairly obvious that everybody who took part in the club ride to Brill enjoyed the experience immensely, what I am asking is.
Can we do a similar thing on a more regular basis i.e quarterly? Okay the fine weather enhanced the experience, but the part I enjoyed the most was all the rides coming together at the same venue and making it a Club outing!

Sounds good to me.

@JamesT, @Philmet1 thank you for raising this. We discussed at the committee last week so apologies for my tardiness in getting back to you (lots on this week).
You are right there is no easy answer to this. Whatever rides we put on there will always be a few people who are "inbetweeners". Realistically we don't have enough ride leaders to run a fourth ride every week, nor do we have enough members to populate and sustain four rides a week.
The best middle ground that we could come up with at the committee meeting was bringing in "step up rides". This means the first Sunday of each month would allow those who are thinking of moving up to the medium or fast rides to have a go without fear of being dropped i.e. the rides aim for their usual pace but it is given on those Sundays that the pace would fall to the slowest rider (provided of course they are realistic about their nearness of ability to maintain the ride speed - we wouldn't want someone trying to jump up 4mph for example).
Hopefully this will help "inbetweeners" get an idea of the next pace up and help them work towards it.
That was the committee suggestion. What do you think?

Thanks @MattH and committee, that sounds really good. I hope it's not too much of a pain for everyone else on the ride but as the attached (hopefully) shows in 48 minutes of last Sundays medium ride I barely got in to the fat burning zone, let alone cardiovascular zone. I don't want to hold anyone up but equally I do need to push myself to improve.
Equally I'd be happy to help out with leading a midrange ride if it proves popular.

Hi Matt, Just a suggestion, that is to review our new watering hole AKA The Mitre, to see if everybody is happy with this venue.
First Aid. Would any of the membership be interested in attending a first aid course; covering fracture management and the dreaded CPR etc. I strongly suggest it should be of interest to ride leaders.
I may just be able to a arrange such a course at a very reasonable cost.

Hi Pete,
Thanks for your feedback.
I've heard nothing but positive reviews from the members on using The Mitre as a venue. Let's face it, it's not like we have an abundance of choice in Buckingham as we're limited on decent pubs! If you have an issue with using The Mitre please feel free to bring it up with me personally.Regarding the first aid courses, this is something that we have discussed as a committee at your behest in the past. Whilst we can see the value we would recommend that those that are unfamiliar with basic first aid should download the St Johns Ambulance app on their respective mobile devices. Having first aid training would be good but it's not something that the club can afford to fund but of course that doesn't prevent members from attending any courses that they wish. If you are able to set something up at a reduced cost I would recommend that you post information for it on the forum as it's not something that the committee would have any input into.

I'll be there - probably cursing myself I raised this issue!
Do you have anything you want to raise with the committee? A query, a grumble, a suggestion for a change, an event or something new?
If you have, you'll be pleased to know that a committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 4th October.
Add an item to the agenda by doing one of the following by Monday evening:
Cheers,
Matt
