COVID-19 Ride Update.

  • Swans Up-Date:

In light of the BC advice, see below we feel better able make a slight change to the Swans rides whilst adhering to the latest advice above BUT continue with the basic principle of the Meet-Up Cafe protocol we having been doing successfully over the last few months, so our thanks to you for that.

Whilst we expect that a number of you will still wish to continue to make your way to the selected Cafes we think it is time to return to ride outs from the Swan Pool, again in line with the above Government rules. Also will again post rides on the Club Forum with the usual advice of cafe, route, data files etc.

BUT there is a request for anyone wishing to join a club ride from the Swan Pool, that you must notify the Ride Leaders by tapping the I’m Attending tab. This will enable the RL to plan and request if the numbers are greater than the approve SIX (6) people to split the ride and then ask from the attendees a secondary Ride Leader. For a ride split into two (2) groups can we suggest whilst it would be good to follow each other at a distance that the groups allow a vehicle to fit in the gap between each, that I would think would be appropriate and the safest way for us.

Also for any posted Meet-Up Ride it would also be good to see who is going ride to the cafe direct? So please just add your intention to do so by text in the Ride post wall, thanks.

British Cycling Latest Up-date - The Way Forward- 30 Jul20

“Following discussions with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, we have revised our guidance so that clubs and groups are now able to ride ‘one metre plus mitigations’ apart in all circumstances, in groups of six or fewer. The 'mitigations' listed by Government include being outdoors and being side-to-side (avoiding face-to-face contact), both of which are achieved in group riding.

Previously our guidance has been that riders from different households should remain at least two metres apart unless if is not safe or possible to do so, however we know that this often makes riding two abreast impossible and there are clear safety and practical issues with riding in groups of six single file. As riders are outdoors and not ‘face-to-face’ we requested that DCMS allow us to make this change and following their agreement groups are permitted to ride at ‘one metre plus mitigations’ in all circumstances with immediate effect.”

It is important that clubs and small groups of riders operate within the latest government guidelines and keep up to date with any changes. Failure to adhere to the government guidelines could invalidate your insurance. In line with government guidelines, clubs’ cycling activity should not exceed group size thresholds (maximum of six people in a group) although multiple groups are permitted provided they are operating separately and social distancing is maintained,

  • Great plan! It could be like school. All line up and ride leaders pick their teams! 😂

  • This is great Paul thank you. I don’t follow WhatsApp anymore so not aware of the meet ups that are going on but I will now if they are being posted in this way. Any approximate time of cafe stop would also be good.

  • Thanks Paul.

  • Oh I hope not Adam, I was the last one to be picked for the netball team, scarred me for life😆🤦🏻♀️

  • The Cafe Meet-up times are as per the club calendar 10:30-10:45

  • What a star you are. So glad that we will be meeting up again
