After reviewing the forecast for tomorrow ride leaders @PeterN and @TallTim are calling off the rides.
No club rides on 12 February.
Hopefully the weather will improve for next weekend. Enjoy your turbo sessions!

If anyone had ambitions to enter Velo Birmingham (closed road sportive in September) but missed out in the initial entry window, there have been a limited number of additional entries released. You'll need to be quick though!
There may be more from the club but I'm aware of @StephenT @JohnnyG @AdamPool and myself that have already signed up for the event.

Like we did last year, we're undertaking another poster campaign to spread awareness of our great club and attract new members.
If anyone knows a suitable village, park or community noticeboard, or business window that we could pin up the advert for our club, please feel free to download the attachment, print it out and stick it up!
It helps for longevity if it's laminated so if you don't have access to a laminater, let me know how many copies you need and I'll do my best to furnish you with some.
We've also got a super sized version of this poster outside the Swan Pool. Thanks very much to @AdamPool for organising the printing and display of the banner at the leisure centre.
If you spot one of last year's posters when you're out and about, please do remove them.
It may help to post the location(s) on here when you've put up a poster to save any members going to time and effort only to find someone has beaten them to a spot.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers
Matt

Here are the minutes from last week's meeting.
PS Thanks for the item @keithrose - it was discussed and we're looking to run both leisure and medium on a Wednesday going forward.

January is nearly done but there's still time for another January Climbathon (this is instead of the fast ride).
There is no set speed on this ride, but expect to take it steady on the flats at around about 15-16mph. Climbing on the hills is at your own pace, whether you want to race them or over-gear, or mix it up. Those first to the top can either take it easy until we regroup or be a hero and come back down and help pull the last person up.
Please bring enough food, drink and spares to sustain you for a hard morning's cycling. Depending on how we get on - the reward for a good time by the group is at stop at 94 Coffee Shop in Waddesdon, we may have to miss it if time is pushing on.
Are you up for the challenge?

Do you have anything you want to raise with the committee? A query, a grumble, a suggestion for a change, an event or something new?
We're holding the next committee meeting on Wednesday 25th January.
Add an item to the agenda by doing one of the following by the evening of Tuesday 24th:
- Replying to this thread
2.Sending me a message via the forum
3.Emailing the committee via swanwheelerscc@gmail.com
4.Speaking to a member of the committee (@PaulW , @StephenT , @lucyS , @paulS , @JulieB or me) on a club ride.
We'll be reviewing and discussing the results of the club survey at the meeting. If you haven't already and want to help shape the club's activities in 2017 please fill it in as soon as you can.

January is upon us and instead of a fast ride this weekend I'll be leading a January Climbathon. The winter is a great time to build up some strength for the season ahead.
There is no set speed on this ride, but expect to take it steady on the flats at around about 15-16mph. Climbing on the hills is at your own pace, whether you want to race them or over-gear, or mix it up. Yep, that's right Pete. @PaulW tipped us off a couple of weeks ago...

Thanks to everyone who's completed the survey so far - which is currently just over a third of the club.
Some really good suggestions and ideas are coming through.
If you haven't already, please do take a few minutes to complete the survey. It'll help shape the club's activities in 2017.

Thanks

This week's medium ride, the last before Christmas, is heading down to Brill (to justify an extra couple of mince pies) and then through the Waddesdon estate. We'll stop at 94 Coffee Shop in Waddesdon (I'm sure they'll have some festive cakes on offer) before heading back up to Buckingham.
This is the medium ride so the pace will be between 14 - 16mph depending on the make up of the group on the day.
Here's the route...

In case you missed it in the newsletter, the end of year club survey is open. Please help us take the club forward in 2017 by sharing what you think is good and bad about how the club functions for its members and what events and ideas would be of interest to you next year.
The survey should take less than five minutes to complete. It'd be great to hear from as many members as possible, whether you've only just joined or have been in it from the start.
https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/G8LHSZN
By the way, the survey is completely anonymous so if you want a direct response on any of your comments or are volunteering to do something, please include your name in one of the comment boxes.

It's another step up weekend so 'faster' medium riders wishing to try out fast are very welcome to join ( @JamesT, @Philmet1, @TallTim and anyone else who's interested is extremely welcome).
It's a flatter route that last month's step up ride. Expect the average speed to be just over the 16mph mark. We'll be doing 45 miles in total.
We're heading south west into Oxfordshire and stopping at the Milk Shed in Weston-on-the-Green. You can view and download the route from the Route Library.
Looking at the forecast for Sunday morning, it looks bright and sunny but also that it might be a wrap up weekend as well as a step up one! (Yes I reused my 'brilliant' pun from last month :-))
See you Sunday!
PS don't forget your ice-cream money!

Thanks everyone for an enjoyable evening.
Special thanks to @JulieB for arranging and sorting out the money at the end.

Persona is the login provider that the forum used. Mozilla have decided to shut this service down at the end of November. There is nothing that can be done about this, but the developer of the forum had put a plan B in place.
It is called auth0 (that is "auth zero") and info can be found over here: auth0.com
Essentially it works like this:
- auth0 will allow you to sign-in using Google, Microsoft, or it will send a code to your email. There is no passsword.
- auth0 will return to forum with a code
- the forum will check the code on the server, and will get your email address from Google, Microsoft or as a consequence of you having verified your email with auth0 by entering the code emailed to you
- the forum will use the email to find your account and sign-in you in as usual
The important bits:
- There is no password
- We need your email
- The email must be the same as the one that you use to login already
I cannot stress that last one enough. If you are signed in already, go view your own profile and you'll see your email on the right hand side. If you sign in with a different (not registered on the forum) email, then you get a new account and not the one you expect.
So long as the email matches, you get signed in to your account.
If you find that you suddenly have a different account, i.e. that you have become user65798 (or similar) then you should PM me.
I will then need to contact the forum developer and ask him to update your email. For this to happen he needs to know:
1.Who you were (username)
- Email for the old user (take a guess if you're unsure)
- Who you are now (though I presume you'll be sending the PM from that account)
Then he can restore your user account to you.
46% of people sign in via Google and seemingly prefer doing so, if you are changing your email you may want to sign in with a Google Account and then let me know as this is quite convenient in future (gives you the option of Google sign in or the "email me a code" sign in).
Apologies for the minor inconvenience this causes but it is completely unavoidable. Please remember we get this briliant forum for a grand total of zero cost to the club.
- auth0 will allow you to sign-in using Google, Microsoft, or it will send a code to your email. There is no passsword.

Come and ride the wild wind on the fast ride this weekend.
We're heading out west to take the wind head on for the outbound leg, refuelling at Lime's Farm and then flying back to Buckingham with the aid of the tail wind.
Wrap up warm, bring some snacks, liquids and cash for coffee and cake. See you Sunday!
I now have a number of laminated posters. If anyone wants a couple, please let me know.
