  • This Sunday's C Ride is a 37-mile pootle to Cafe 94, Waddesdon. The plan is to ride through Gawcott, Barton Hartshorn, then hang a left before Stratton Audley. Poundon [not the hill!!], Marsh Gibbon, Edgcott then to the Cafe.

The route home is via the Manor, Quainton & The Claydon's enjoying the delightful Southerly wind. Have you noticed when its against you it's a gentle breeze, yet behind it's a full on wind, funny that!! Jesting apart the weather forecast is looking good for the time of year, so no excuses now, lets be 'avin ya.

If the numbers dictate may have to re-think the cafe stop due to '94 being on the small side. That said there are one a two watering holes in the vicinity.

Up for it? Then tap the 'I'm Attending' button, please and I will look forward to seeing you Sunday morning at 08:45hrs for a 09:00hrs depart.

  • Car covered with ice so I'm not risking my bones!

  • @chriswilkes are you sure? No ice or frost in Akeley and we're higher up than Buckingham.

  • Hello Chris, I've just seen your message. Yes, I was sure. Akeley is known for its sub tropical micro climate, probably due, as Stuart says, to being closer to the sun!

I might have risked riding as it was 3 degrees and due to rise, so any ground frost would probably not have felled me. However, I've been sticking to a simple policy about not going out in the morning if there is ice on the windscreen. Instead I did a short ride after lunch yesterday and a longer one this morning.

  • @chriswilkes your policy is very sensible, in fact I've been doing the same. But I was very surprised to see your note on Sunday morning as here in Akeley there really was no sign of frost at all. So, being the B ride leader I had to make a decision quickly and wanted to double check the facts. Stuart confirmed that there was some frost in Tingewick but I took the view that it would probably dissappear quite quickly and it would be safe to ride. So, I took the decision to go and fortunately it turned out fine. Anyway it's a shame you missed the ride as you'd have enjoyed it. I'll have to do the ride again sometime so you can come along. See you Wednesday?

  • I'm glad you made the right decision, Chris. Mine was probably over cautious, but I chose the option of riding solo today instead and staying a bit warmer.

As to Wednesday, the same situation may arise as it is forecast to be only 2 degrees at 8am after a cold clear night, which spells ground frost, so I may go out solo on Thursday instead. Come to think of it, it might be an occasion to use your Steeple Aston route as the (light) breeze is coming from that quarter.
